How we manage offenders

Rehabilitation

To stop offenders committing more crimes they need support and opportunites to change.

NOMS is committed to the rehabilitation of offenders through programmes that address the reasons behind offending behaviour.

An intervention programme can be delivered in custody and continued after release. They often make up part of an offender's order if the court probation officer recommends that the programme suits the offender and that it can produce a positive outcome.

A huge number of intervention programmes are available to offenders to help rehabilitate them and assist with reintegrating into a community. Programmes are targeted at the individual's needs and can help them with issues including substance misuse problems, basic learning skills, drug rehabilitation and aggression treatment.
