Sentences

NOMS aims to make sure that anyone convicted of a crime is punished appropriately. There are a varying level of options open to the courts on how they can punish an offender.

Any sentence will be designed to: 

• punish the offender
• reduce crime (including by deterrence)
• reform and rehabilitate the offender
• protect the public
• make reparation by offenders to the victims of their offences.
